BANGKOK (AP) -- Thailand will ban agricultural, meat and dairy products imported from areas
close to Japan's troubled nuclear power plant starting Monday.
Thai Food and Drug Administration Secretary-General Pipat Yingseree said Friday that vegetables,
fruit, eggs, meat and milk from the 12 prefectures closest to the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant will not be allowed into Thailand.
Radiation levels in the air, soil and water near the plant have decreased recently.
Thailand has screened food products from Japan since March 15 and has not detected any unsafe items. Pipat says, "We will take additional steps when needed."
The ban does not include Japanese seafood products due to difficulty in identifying their origin
